From Long Term Rental to Home Sweet Home
After renting this beautiful home out for many years, the homeowner decided it was time to return ‘home’ where she’d raised her children. She’d always considered this house her home, yet, when she returned after the longtime renters moved out, it just didn’t feel like home to her. She wanted to freshen up the kitchen and hall bath, re-finish the hardwood floors throughout, paint the interior and exterior and infuse her warmth and personality into each room. So that’s exactly what we set out to do!
We kept the footprint of the kitchen, but made a couple small changes to create a better flow and more functional workspace for cooking. We moved the double ovens, added a generously sized full height pantry cabinet, increased the depth of the peninsula overhang so that it was more comfortable to sit at, and of course, updated all of the finishes - new cabinets, countertops, backsplash, lighting, appliances, and plumbing fixtures.
We kept the existing skylight and kitchen window, and added a chimney style hood to vent the new gas cooktop with pretty glass pendants on either side. To minimize the visual impact of the new refrigerator, the homeowner decided to go with a panel ready model to blend in with the white shaker cabinets.
