From Dated Details to Soothing Spa Retreat!

This large and luxurious primary bath was spacious and had the top of the line details when it was built back in the 90’s, but it was time to create a retreat worthy of the million dollar views!

This homeowner wanted to update the primary bath so she could enjoy it before working with her real estate agent to find the ideal timing to put it on the market. She and her late husband had the home designed and built in the 1990’s and she was hesitant to make changes because it had been their dream home and everything was sentimental - but - she knew she would put in on the market in the near future, so she wanted updates to be desirable for a future sale, but luxurious enough that she could enjoy them until that time came. Her trusted friends and realtors at the O’Halloran Group brought me in on the project to design a space to stand the test of time that would also meet the needs of their client.

The two main requests from the homeowner were to create privacy for the toilet (which was pretty much on display in the existing plan), and design a space that felt like a spa retreat. Challenge accepted!

We kept the vaulted ceilings, all of the existing windows and skylight and moved the toilet to the original shower location, creating a water closet for privacy, and designed a walk-in, barrier free shower, with a linear drain and built-in soaking tub where you could soak in the mountain views! We kept to ceiling soffits, added recessed can lighting to them, and changed the layout of the vanity, keeping two sinks. We selected beautiful large format porcelain tiles for simplicity and minimal maintenance, stained wood cabinetry for a sophisticated and subtle contrast, and brushed nickel plumbing fixtures. I think the results speak for themselves… but they also spoke to the future buyers as this home had no problems attracting multiple offers!

Minor floor plan changes and updating finishes can really transform a space, what do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below and if you’re in need of some updates to your bathroom, but you’re not sure where to start - reach out and we can discuss options!
