From Boxed In Kitchen to Entertainer's Delight!

An Entertainer’s Delight!

How do you fit a 48” Wolf range in a cramped, boxed-in kitchen? You change the entire layout! We had plenty of space to work with, but the kitchen layout felt small and inefficient. The kitchen had a shallow peninsula, so it wasn’t comfortable to sit at because you would bump your knees, and it was close to the sliding glass door, so you always felt like you were ‘in the way’ as people passed in and out. The homeowners wanted a large kitchen, with an island that could seat at least four people, and they wanted it to feel more connected to the rest of the home. Honestly, we didn’t have to change much to really open up the layout and create a kitchen that a family could enjoy and entertain in!

We kept the sink and refrigerator in the same locations there were in previously, moved the gas range from the old peninsula and onto a full height wall with a wall hood above, took out the peninsula, extended the cabinetry along the sink wall, and created a great island with a curved top and enough space to seat 6! We decided to take down part of a full height wall and create a pony wall with another couple of seats, that also offers more of a connection to the living room on the other side of the kitchen.

This sweet family has two young children, and they wanted a kitchen that felt light and bright but wasn’t sure that white cabinets would, well, stay white… so we worked with a local cabinet maker to have the perfect warm stain made for our cabinetry, selected light quartz countertops with some beautiful and subtle veining, and used a champagne colored glossy glass tile for the backsplash - the result is a beautiful, bright and inviting kitchen, that doesn’t show wear and tear!
