Kitchen Inspiration: Microwave, Convection, or Both?

Let’s talk about ideal kitchen appliances.

One popular conversation we have around kitchen appliances is about the microwave, believe it or not! Yes, the good ol’ microwave that pops popcorn can now do more… if it’s a convection microwave combo. Now, having two different appliance functions in one can sound a little more complicated - but really, it’s not! Some nifty safety functions have been included so you don’t accidentally start ‘baking’ something when you mean to microwave or reheat it.

So, first things first, how do you tell the difference between a standard microwave and a convection microwave when they look the same or similar from the outside?

When you open the door to the appliance and look inside, you’ll notice that the convection microwave combos will be all metal inside and have a fan at the back to circulate the hot air. The microwave will either have a white or gray interior and does not have a fan at the back. Both appliances come with the turn table, but the convection microwave also comes with a baking rack. The super handy thing about convection microwaves is they can be used as an oven; so if you just want to make a small batch of cookies or a pizza, you don’t have to use your regular (larger!) oven for such a small task, you can use one of the convection-bake settings and get the same result! You can expect to pay at least double for a convection microwave, but you’ll get more than double the use and function!

So, which would you pick? Convection microwave or conventional microwave?
