Contemporary Contrast: Bold Statements in Small Spaces

How do you make a bold statement in a small space without it feeling overwhelming? Keep it simple! This black-and-white palette is fun and timeless. The vaulted ceilings and skylights help this ADU (accessory dwelling unit) feel open and spacious in a small footprint, and a light luxury vinyl plank floor adds a touch of soft gray to the mix.

Project Details: This was a new ADU (accessory dwelling unit), and the homeowners wanted a contemporary space with contrast and functional storage. Since the space was small, so we designed the kitchen and laundry room with white cabinetry (with pull-out accessories), black countertops and backsplash, black hardware, and accents with a texture like the cleft edge backsplash in the laundry room. The kitchen also has black floating shelves and a white quartz island countertop with veining to keep the kitchen from feeling too dark. The kitchen has vaulted ceilings with skylights to help the space feel larger. The shower has a concrete-looking porcelain tile on the walls and the floor for a seamless appearance and is accented with black hardware, a black vessel sink, and a black wall mount faucet.
