If you’re an avid baker, then this is for you! I’d say about 99% of my kitchen designs include some sort of tray storage used to neatly stack and organize cutting boards, cookie sheets, baking tins, and baking racks - which is great when they’re not in use… but what about that extra space you need when you’re channeling your inner Julia Childs and baking up a storm? We design a custom cabinet to store your most precious tools - like this bakery rack!
This homeowner already owned the bakery rack and she had dreamed of being able to store it in her kitchen (instead of her garage). She loves to bake and while she didn’t need to use it everyday, she wanted it stored in a convenient place that was easy to access.
When we were designing the cabinetry, it made the most sense to store it in the backside of the island, but it was too tall to roll into a standard base cabinet, so we had the legs of the bakery rack cut shorter, then reinstalled the wheels so it would roll nicely into a cabinet. We had to design the bakery rack cabinet differently than the rest of the cabinets, so it was important to create symmetry on either side so the design of the cabinet looked like a design feature. The bakery rack cabinet is really just a pair of doors - it doesn’t have a cabinet bottom or a toe kick, instead it has full height doors that extend almost to the hardwood floor that runs into the cabinet; that way the doors open and the baking rack can roll out easily and the doors don’t scrape the wood floor.
