From an Outdated Original Kitchen to Black Beauty!

A look at the accessible countertop with two large windows on the right, entryway door in the middle, and circular mirror and bench on the left.

Black Beauty Kitchen!

I love when we can make a big impact (both visually and functionally), and we don’t even need to change any walls or windows - we just change how you use the space you have… and maybe we add more lighting so you can actually see what you’re doing too! Think galley kitchens are small? Think again!

As you can see in the floor plans, we only made a small change with the appliance locations - we kept the sink, dishwasher and cook top all in the same locations, but the kitchen felt closed off with a wall and refrigerator opposite the small (and useless) peninsula. This layout made it impossible to walk behind someone when they were standing at the refrigerator and moving the fridge and dressing it up with cabinet panels made this space not only prettier, but significantly more functional; by removing the useless peninsula and attached banquette seating that the homeowners didn’t use and replacing it with a lower stretch of countertop and base cabinets, we created a home office space that can double as a breakfast bar or an accessible countertop space for family members who want to be a part of the action in the kitchen, but maybe can’t stand for long periods of time.

Finally, we converted an awkward, deep (but shallow) closet into a functional, pull out pantry where you can actually access the contents (and see them all), and it’s disguised to disappear into the wall so as not to detract from the stunning waterfall edge.

The homeowners had already made some updates to the home prior to the kitchen remodel, and the beautiful bird wallpaper was something they wanted to keep - we didn’t have any leftover material, so the changes to the walls that had the wallpaper had to be done super carefully so as not to damage it and that meant we had to include design details that accentuated it and looked like the wallpaper had been installed with the remodel! I think we pulled it off!
