Kitchen Storage or Clever Cover-Up?

A wide look at this gorgeous kitchen with blue island cabinets in the center and white cabinets throughout, including over the cooktop to hide the range hood exhaust.

These wall cabinets pull double duty looking beautiful and hiding ductwork for the range hood exhaust!

Clever Cover-Up!

When it comes to selecting appliances, it’s easy to fall in love with the bells and whistles of cook top burner power, quick cooking features of steam ovens, and fridges that help you make your grocery list but the necessary range/cooktop hood ventilation can be equally as important - especially if your kitchen has anything other than a ‘standard’ 8’-0” ceiling!

In the upper portion of this picture you see a before shot of the kitchen space; the bottom half features the renovated space.

This home had beautiful open beam, vaulted ceilings with tongue and groove planking that we wanted to highlight, and we didn’t want a metal duct or sheetrock ‘box’ above the hood cabinet - we wanted a clean, seamless row of wall cabinetry, but we had to get the hood exhaust ductwork to the exterior of the home (a building code requirement), so we decided to sneak it into the top of the wall cabinets!

The homeowners still have the full depth and use of the majority of their wall cabinet shelving, but we enclosed the top shelf space with cabinet material, leaving some shallow shelf space for small glassware, while hiding the necessary ductwork!

Don’t underestimate the power of your cabinet storage - cabinetry can not only hold all of the necessary cooking gadgets - when designed for your precise needs - it can also be the beautiful cover (up) to your kitchen story!
